Use this handy T-chart to have students research and jot down their debate points prior to the actual debate. It can also be used during the debate for note-taking. It includes a place for the topic to be written as well as an extra page for notes with columns entitled AFFIRMATIVE (PRO) AND NEGATIVE (CON). There's nothing like being prepared for a vigorous and educational classroom debate. A classroom debate is a great exercise for the entire class or for your gifted and talented students. I have taught for 36 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology. My other duties at school include being "Teacher in Charge" and Student Council advisor.
