Helping students capture specific details to set the place, tone, and mood of their essays using only four sentences. Even the most reluctant writer will enjoy and make an A! Plus this journal writing exercise gives students a great record of memories/events to expand into full blown essays later. Another extension for grammar and mechanics practice would be to take the four sentences and combine them into one sentence using such techniques as Christian's combined sentence writing, comma practice, or compound-complex sentence practice. This is page one of two that I couldn't get to upload together for some reason. Please search thumbnail sketch mini essay for the free second page! Thank you.
