As you study the 13 original colonies, have students use this chart to document the dates, leaders, goals, and results of the settling of the colonies. It begins with the colony of Jamestown, Virginia. This chart could be used to cover several chapters in your U.S. History books. It could also serve as a terrific study guide for a test on the colonies.

I have taught for 36 years at the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade levels. Fifth grade is my first love. I teach all major subject areas. In addition to my regular classroom duties, I have taught in a Basic Skills summer school program for many years as well as taught workshops to co-workers in whole language and technology.
