This worksheet helps student make sense of figurative language and slang while reading 145th Street: Short Stories by Walter Dean Myers. Students can work in pairs or individually to identify examples of figurative language and slang within the text, analyze them, and make real-world connections. This is a great complement to the reading process and an effective way for students to better understand what they read. My students enjoy this activity and the text connections they make really help them internalize their understanding of story elements, too!
