The Rise of Fascism Worksheet is an extensive 5-page worksheet that details Mussolini's and Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. It includes fourteen markers of a fascist regime, Mussolini's rise to power in Italy, the March on Rome, his youth and adult fascist organizations, and his later friendship with Hitler. It also includes Hitler's early life, failed Beer Hall Putsch, writing Mein Kampf, rise to political power, Hindenburg's appointment of Hitler to Chancellor, the Nuremberg laws, Kristallnacht, and much more in excruciating detail.
Use the answer key as notes for your own lecture or the worksheet for students to fill out, depending on the level of the students. I use a video (such as the History Channel's "This Century: Rise of Fascism," which is from the mid 1990s) interspersed with this worksheet to illustrate the events being discussed.
