Integration, integration, integration. This project integrates social studies, reading and writing and technology, into a two stage project. Students will use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher as well as the Internet, in order to complete this project on one of the nine important Americans that are required for 3rd graders in Georgia: Paul Revere, Fredrick Douglass, Mary McLeod Bethune, Susan B. Anthony, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, Thurgood Marshall, or Cesar Chavez. The multi-stage project includes Internet research, informational writing, and persuasive writing. Originally designed for third grade, this project can easily be adopted for older students. Includes grading rubrics for each section.

I currently teach a mixed age class of 3rd and 4th graders at the International School of Morocco. Previously, I have taught 1st grade and 3rd grade, as well as teaching all grade levels in the computer lab at a Title I school in Georgia. I have taught both high income and low-income school students, and find that no matter where I teach, most kids need to look at every problem from 12 different angles. Although it is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.
