This packet includes “I can” statements written in kid friendly language for ALL of the Common Core standards. These 2nd grade common core posters are unique due to the fact that the standards cards are two-sided: one side is the exact standard written and coded for your records, the other side is the same standard written in "kid-friendly" language so that your students will be able to understand. (NOTE: I've taken great care in trying to preserve the meaning of the standard when I changed it into terms that the students can understand. I kept most verbiage the same and used synonyms for more challenging words to help second graders understand!)

This document includes standards for Language Arts (reading, writing, language, etc.) and Math. Science and Social Studies are also included, although they are specific to Ohio. If you would like for me to customize the posters to meet your state's Science and Social Studies standards, please check out my product Customized 2nd Grade Common Core Standards Posters- Kid Friendly

If you've already purchased the Math and ELA posters and would like the Science and SS ONLY, please check out this product State Specific Science and Social Studies Posters

Also included are: title and subject heading cards in two different color schemes for you to choose from, information explaining how to read the coding on each card, and directions on how to print and make the cards. Making the cards is very simple-- you just need to print, cut around the solid black line (but DO NOT cut the line in the middle) and then fold in half. One side will be the "teacher" side and the other is the "kid-friendly" side. Just laminate, if you wish, and display in your classroom to make the learning goals more visible to your students! You can display these on a bulletin board, in a pocket chart, with 3M hooks virtually anywhere in your classroom, or any other ways you can think of! Be sure to download the product preview to see more views of the posters!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! Thanks for checking this item out :)

Do you have a list of the acronyms you used for your topics...I am finding that the list I have for science and social studies is different, therefore, I do not know what your topic covers for each "I Can" statement...thanks

I just purchased these wonderful posters for my classroom. However, after the download, the "kid" friendly side has not writing, just black thick lines? Is there something I can do to fix this?

Hi, thanks for your purchase! Make sure that you have adobe reader installed on your computer and that you are opening up the file in this program! That should fix the issue!

Hi,

These are called posters, but they are really the size of half a sheet of letter paper. I love the idea, but I'm not sure where to put them or how to place them for a practical use. Someone mentioned a pocket chart - have teachers mentioned how that would work as far as visibility to the students, etc. ? Thanks

Hi,

I actually use a pocket chart in my classroom and think that it works really well. It is posted on our whiteboard and we go over the objectives before each lesson. I hope that helps!

Hi! Thanks so much for your purchase!

To solve the problem, make sure you do these two things: On a MAC or PC, install the latest version of ADOBE READER (link is below). Then, open the file with ADOBE READER. On a MAC, make sure to "Open With" ADOBE READER and NOT Preview. If it's still blurry, that's because you are still opening it with Preview.

I hope that helps!

I downloaded your set but for some reason the side of the cards that have the kid friendly language on them is blacked out. Everything else looks great, but that was kind of the point of me getting these.

Hi Erin, Please help.. I just bought your grade 2 cards and there isn't a RL8 , W4, and RF1 and RF2 Would you please print a free one to match the set?

Hi,

There is actually no RL8. If you look at the Common Core website, it says that RL8 is not applicable to literature in 2nd grade therefore there is no standard.

There is also no RF1 and RF2. W4 also begins in grade 3. If you have any questions, please visit the link below. Thanks!

Hello,
I love your posters! However I noticed that the teacher and kid friendly standards are not readable in the same direction. Is there anyway you can make it so that the kid friendly and the teacher standards are going in the same readable direction?? Thanks!

Erin Morrison  (TpT Seller)
Hi Danielle!

Thanks for your interest in these posters! The reason that the text boxes are in different directions is because they are meant to be folded in half after you cut them out. Once you do this, the kid-friendly "I Can" statement is on one side and the teacher standard is on the other. I hope this makes sense! Let me know if you have any other questions!

I had the same question as Heather Campbell, so thanks for answering that. I was curious, is the coding the same nationwide? So, if I live in California, would I only need Language Arts and Math? Or would I be able to use the other subjects as well?

Thanks :)

Thanks so much for your interest in these posters. This product includes only 2nd grade Math and Language Arts standards (which are the same nationwide). However, if you'd like the Science and SS standards that are specific to your state, I sell another product titled "Customized 2nd Grade Common Core Standards Posters- "Kid Friendly" Here is the link if you'd like more information:

Erin,
I just purchased the 2nd grade common core kid-friendly posters and am wondering if you could please do me a favor. I'd like to get it printed at Staples, but do not want the whole file, as I only need reading, math, and writing. Would you be able to put the following pages in a file for me so I can upload to Staples? pgs. 29, 34, 35, 66 thru163. Thank you.

Hi Heather! Math and Language Arts are the same nation wide for all states but a handful (some states haven't fully adopted the Common Core standards but all will eventually). California is one of the state who has adopted the CC standards. So yes, these posters would be very helpful to you! :) Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! Thanks so much for your interest in the posters! The posters can't be edited because they are saved as a PDF. The reasons below are why I have to save all of my products as PDF:

•The Terms of Use of purchased clip art and fonts forbid me from sharing any non-pdf files.
•If the document was saved as a Word file, your computer might not have the same version of Word as mine, you would not have the purchased font installed on your computer, and the margins would most likely be off. So even if I was allowed to send it in Word form, it would look totally different than the original document.

I hope this makes sense! If there are simple changes that you would like made, please let me know and I may be able to change them for you (this will be determined by the time involved).

Thanks so much for your understanding and interest in the posters! :)

Erin,
I was surfing this weekend and found your very adorable common core standards posters (kid friendly version). I noticed that you said you would adapt the social standards to the state that we teach in if we requested. I would love to have a copy of those based on Kansas standards. I teach 2nd grade in Haysville, Kansas.

thanks so much for your time and effort.
