Use these 24 Three Reasons Why for lateral thinking enrichment. Students can answer on notebook paper and record their progress on the included recording sheet. For best results, encourage students to come up with creative, yet plausible answers. You may also want to use these cards for sentence writing practice by requiring students to answer in complete and error-free sentences. Another option is to use the cards in groups and have students brainstorm answers verbally.

I wish I had found these a year ago! I had a student who would shut down at each and every writing assignment no matter how engaging or "fun" I thought he would find it. We often did choice menus, prompts, models from other students, but he would tell me he didn't know what to write. If I had these then, I would have let him glue one into his notebook and wrote about them instead; building his confidence and also building to write for the assignment. I really believe this is a great tool for just that type of situation. I also will be including them in future choice menus and my writing center. Thanks!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Subject Area:
Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching.
