This product is based on the Common Core Standard: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.3.1 (Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.)
Many states are in the process of moving to (or already using) Common Core. It is important to have quality practice and assessments based on the Common Core Standards. This reading passage and questions could work as practice, a formative assessment, or a summative assessment depending on how you use it in your classroom.
This reading passage is based on Blackbeard - the famous pirate. It covers how he became a pirate, how he got a ship and became a captain, what kind of "treasure" he stole, and how he died. (This is a very sanitized version of his exploits and life.)
I have included four different copies of the product for your convenience. There are copies with the standard at the top of the page for easy reference, copies with short answer questions and copies with multiple choice questions.
I have many, many more reading passages in my store. Many are based on science and history.
Priced well - a quick passage and questions in different formats. I appreciated the quick and easy addition to my reader's workshop, and I know my boys will get a kick out of it!
