Students categorize sentences into four categories: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exlamatory. You can give each student their own category board and set of sentences, or allow students to work in partners or small groups. Students can paste the sentences onto the board, or you can copy materials onto cardstock and store in envelopes to use again another year.

I know that you have 6th grade listed, but do you think it will be too easy? I want to use this after a powerpoint and then give them a worksheet for homework. Thanks, Kim

It might be. It depends on your 6th graders. Most of your kids should get it quickly, but you might have a couple of kids who don't. It's early in the year, so you could use it as a quick assessment. If they all get it, then great, you can move on, but if someone doesn't you know where you need to remediate.
