This is a smartboard lesson that focuses on Word Choice (6 + 1 Writing trait). It starts off with songs about the 6 + 1 writing and then is followed by reading the book "Fancy Nancy" by Jane O'Connor. The students differentiate between fancy and plain words from the book and what the fancy words mean. This is followed by the students matching fancy and plain words. They can then use these words to practice using fancy words in their journal.

This smartboard lesson was excellent. I read the book to my grade 3 students and they completely understood the difference between fancy and plain words. This was an excellent lesson on word choice and I will continue to use the "Fancy Nancy" books to complete my word choice unit. Thanks for the resource!!

It opens up to download, however when the next screen comes up it says that adobe reader cannot open as it does not recognize the file as an attachment to a e-mail or it is a corrupted file. I have purchased quite a lot of items on this site and have never encountered this problem before.

I sent a message yesterday thinking that this was the same product as the word choice activity for Fancy Nancy, however it isn't I am just not able to open this file it says that it is corrupted or not found...

I am not sure what you are talking about as I only have the one product by that title - and as far as I can see it works to download. This must be an error you made or I must not understand what happened. Sorry!

In the description, you list a book....is this read ON the smartboard slide or does the teacher need the paper copy of the picture book? Thanks! (i'm in an isolated overseas area and have difficulty finding many books so i need to ensure that I can get this book--if necessary--before I can buy this lesson!)
