Georgia Performance Standard
S7L4. Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their environments.
e. Describe the characteristics of Earth's major terrestrial biomes (i.e. tropical rain forest, savannah, temperate, desert, taiga, tundra, and mountain) and aquatic communities (i.e. freshwater, estuaries, and marine).
To use as a group task for the entire class, you will need 1 copy of each page per group.
To use as a center, you will just need 1 copy of each page.
Cut out and laminate for longer use and protection.
This is a great way to reach some of the kinesthetic and visual learners!
Students work in groups or pairs to arrange the cards into Tree Maps.
Then to reinforce the concepts, once you have checked that the Tree Maps are correct, students can transfer some or all of the information to their own notes.
I recommend they do this in the Tree Map format as well.
To check for thorough understanding, have students choose their favorite biome and draw it, including biotic and abiotic factors..
The students' examples would be great for hanging in the hallway or around the classroom as each would be different and unique!
