This lesson plan focuses on the post 9/11 debate over civil liberties, especially over enemy combatants. Students are asked to do a journal assignment, view a video, and take part in a cooperative learning exercise.
Objectives of the lesson plan are:
The student will be able to understand the Bill of Rights and the civil liberties they protect.
The student will be able to analyze September 11th’s impact on U.S. domestic policy and actions. (Patriot Act and the “War on Terror.”)
The student will be able to evaluate if the United States has violated the civil liberties of American citizens.

I been teaching for nine years. During that time period I have taught Advanced Placement American Government in an International Baccalaureate program to 10th graders. In addition have also primarily taught time Advanced Placement American History and Dual Enrollment American History. Currently I also teach teach U.S. History honors to 11th graders.
