Let's spend a day at the beach! A fun theme for the end of the year is an ocean and beach unit, perhaps after a study of the continents. This product includes thirty pages with the following activities...
*Brainstorming words that come to mind when thinking about the beach or ocean
*Planning a day at the beach-small group activity where students must collaborate to plan a beach day and then present to the class
*Antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms-work with a partner to fill in the chart
*Zones of the Ocean-information and illustrations to depict the zones of the ocean, can be used with the book, "Exploring the Deep, Dark Sea" by Gail Gibbons
*My notes for "Zones of the Ocean"
*Collecting Shells Small Book-identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs
*Beach & Ocean Alphabet-working with partners to think of words that remind you of the beach and ocean, then create a story using your alphabet
*Measurement-measure ocean animals and then measure around the classroom to find objects of the same length
*Math-problem solving, addition magic squares, favorite beach activity graph, favorite ocean animal graph, one blank graph for children to create the question to ask classmates, adding four 2-digit numbers, adding 3-digit numbers, and subtracting 3-digit numbers
Many of the activities will get the children up out of their seats working with a partner or small group and learning to collaborate, compromise, and work together.
Oh I can't wait for my Beach Day...May is right around the corner! It is so nice to hear that it saved you some time. I appreciate your feedback. Enjoy!
