A Million Shades of Gray Comprehension Activity Guide
This is a reading comprehension activity guide and answer key for A Million Shades of Gray by Cynthia Kadohata. This guide contains 24 pages of activities (50 total pages including the answer key, assessments, and scoring rubrics).
Set in the mid 1970s, this historical novel follows the struggle and ultimate destruction of a remote village of Dega people living in the hills of South Vietnam. Y'Tin wants nothing more than to be an elephant handler and is assigned the all-important task of caring for Lady, one of the tribe�¢ï¿½ï¿½s three elephants. Although the Americans left Vietnam, the war rages on. When Y'Tin�¢ï¿½ï¿½s small village is violently attacked by the North Vietnamese Army, Y'Tin plays witness and must decide what to do. A Million Shades of Gray is a story about friendship, trust, and truth. In 2004, Kadohata wrote Kira-Kira, her first novel aimed at a younger audience. For her efforts she was awarded the 2005 Newbery Award for excellence in children's writing- an amazing feat for a first-time children's author.

Thank you for your very important question. We don't include the levels of each comprehension guide for the specific reason that there are so many different ways to level books.
