October 2012--This product has been updated and improved!! In addition to all of the skills listed below, this workbook now covers more areas in language arts as seen on the state test and benchmark tests, including guide words, questioning skills, sentence correction, more compare/contrast, and writing skills. Plus, cute Scrappin Doodles graphics have been added to make the workbook more student friendly!
This is a 21 page workbook to accompany the story "A Trip to the Firehouse" by Wendy Cheyette Lewison. Skills covered include: author's purpose, comparing/contrasting, consonant clusters, digraphs, compound words, punctuation and quotation marks, summarizing, syllables, predicting, multiple meaning words, fact/opinion, parts of speech, synonyms/antonyms, true/false, singular and plural nouns, homophones, verb tense, contractions, sequencing, analogies, vocabulary, pronouns, proper nouns, making connections, drawing conclusions, main idea and supporting details, subject/predicate, reference materials, facts and supporting details, picture clues, main idea of a page, adding extra details, correct word order, spelling, complete and incomplete sentences, sentence types, narrator, grammar, soft and hard c and g, vowels sounds, ABC order, and cause and effect. This has been an invaluable tool in covering state standards and helping my students with comprehension and numerous language arts skills.
The page numbers referenced in this workbook correspond to the story in the Houghton Mifflin® Anthology "Adventures" from their California Reading program. If you are using another version of "A Trip to the Firehouse", this will still be useful to you, but you may have to modify a few things. If you like this product, check out my workbooks for other stories in the "Adventures" and "Delights" anthology books.
