This all encompassing 45 page packet can be used with any A to Z Mysteries book. The printable packet includes comprehension, vocabulary, word work, map skills, code work, math, creative thinking and critical thinking activities with the A to Z Mysteries theme.
The comprehension strategies include predicting, summarizing, sequencing, making connections, questioning, comparing and contrasting, picture walk and much more. Word work consists of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pastime verbs, identifying suffixes, suffix rules, syllables, contractions and compound words. Other activities include characterization, setting, story pyramid, story map, Venn Diagrams and solving mysteries with math skills, such as addition, subtraction, rounding and odd/even numbers.
This packet is designed for you to choose the worksheets you would like to use with your students. It can be used with the whole class, small groups and/or individual students. Some minor grammatical or formatting errors (For example, Questions for chapter 1 are numbered 1-5, then 9, then 7) But overall a good unit. I am using it for 2nd grade and it is quite difficult for 2nd graders. It has turned into an exclusively group activity, not really able to use it for individual work.

GREAT packet - I love that students can use it with any book. I'm using it with a small group first and then allowing scholars to use it with their choice of books from the series - great for high-level thinking and understanding books in a series.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a retired 3rd grade teacher with 30 years teaching experience. I have written two books based on language arts and math activities. My other experiences include teaching continuing education online courses for several universities and PBS TeacherLine. These courses are specifically designed for teachers. I have also taught summer school for elementary students and adults. I have given workshops on topics such as Teaching Tools on the Net, Lively Language, How to Write Book Reports and creative writing. I currently teach student teachers at our local university.
