We all know how a piece of art can stir up emotions, but imagine getting students to identify how the ARTIST was feeling about the subject. Use images to introduce students to tone. When they can connect details in an image to the artist's feelings about the subject, the transition to writing is easy. Use this lesson plan with students grades 6 and up. I have used modified versions of this lesson plan with English 9 and AP English Language and Composition. This lesson is included in my AP English Language Style Analysis/Rhetorical Analysis Unit.
