I do these 2 lab activities with my students during the chapter on Thermal energy. They can be done separately or together to demonstrate how thermal energy moves from warmer temperatures to cooler temperatures or to demonstrate how different materials can affect heat transfer by acting as conductors or insulators.
These activities are meant to be used with the PowerPoint Lesson found here:
From the PowerPoint, students will also be guided through the steps of the scientific method (another great review) as they move from questions, to creating a hypothesis, to copying a procedure, collecting data, drawing a graph, and finally writing a well thought out conclusion.
Doing this activity makes it easy to incorporate a writing activity into your science lesson.
I have also included both grading rubrics to make grading this lab simple and as quick as possible. Each section is worth a certain number of points, with more important sections worth more points.
Ask Lauren McVey a question. They will receive an automated email and will return to answer you as soon as possible.
