I do these 2 lab activities with my students during the chapter on Thermal energy. They can be done separately or together to demonstrate how thermal energy moves from warmer temperatures to cooler temperatures or to demonstrate how different materials can affect heat transfer by acting as conductors or insulators.
From the PowerPoint, students will also be guided through the steps of the scientific method (another great review) as they move from questions, to creating a hypothesis, to copying a procedure, collecting data, drawing a graph, and finally writing a well thought out conclusion.
Doing this activity makes it easy to incorporate a writing activity into your science lesson.
