This versatile packet contains 12 different language arts skills tasks as printables for students. Each skill covered is listed below.
Need to teach skills in context? Use your current novel, short story, etc. to do any of these tasks.
The activities require students to apply knowledge of literary elements as well as access prior knowledge in order to create inferences and locate examples of literary elements within a literature text you are currently using in your class.
Students practice and polish grammar skills in context with these task sheets. Teaching grammar in context is the best way to teach it!
Grammar Skills Tasks Included: Adjectives, Adverbs, Types of Sentences (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex), Kinds of Sentences (Exclamatory, Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative), Homophones or Homonyms, and Verbals
Reading & Literature Skills Tasks Included:
Similes, Foreshadowing, Personification, Alliteration, Characterization, Making Inferences
This activity packet includes tasks for students to complete individually, with partners, at literacy centers, or in small groups.
They are also great homework sheets to send home for additional practice of locating literary elements and examples of grammar concepts/terms within any text students are currently reading.
These tasks can be used as bell ringers, exit slips, grammar lessons, literature supplements while reading, or any other creative way you'd like to use them!
For use with multiple types of text: novels, short stories, plays, articles, fiction, non-fiction, current events, etc.
PDF is complete with a table of contents of page numbers and each task is on a separate page for projecting on activboard, putting in literacy centers or printing as handouts for students.
Each activity also contains the number of points the task is worth, with individual items and total task points. The points are found at the bottom of each task sheet.
The task sheets are NOT worksheets of practice questions. They are intended for use as tasks for students to do using a text.

Most of my career spent in 7th - 8th grade English Language Arts; I've been in middle school for 8+ years. Taught 1 year each in K, 2nd, 5th Each has it's perks. I apparently enjoy the upper grades since I quickly moved up levels. I'm completing my 12th year with the end of this school year 2012-13...
