This is a set of 4 worksheet designed to help students develop the skill of decomposing numbers 4, 7, 8, and 9 using 1" construction paper squares in 2 different colors.
Students will create different ways to represent a number, then record the corresponding addition sentence beside each tile creation.
This activity was specifically designed for Common Core standard K.OA.3 (Decompose Numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation)
The decomposing practice for numbers 7, 8, and 9 are two pages each. They can be copied separately on 8.5"x11" paper or taped together and copied onto 11"x17" paper. (This is what I did and my kids LOVED doing work on a really big piece of paper.)

My kids love these! I do wish that it was possible to print on legal size paper. Printing it back to back makes it difficult for the kids to see what combinations of colors they have already used.

Hi Maria, I am still trying to print this download so that the boxes are close to 1". You mentioned that my margins may be too small. I can't seem to figure out how to change that on these documents. Any ideas?

I'm on a Mac right now so if you are a PC user, the words may be slightly different for you. But let's see if we can make this work!
Open the document then go to File->Print...
In the print dialogue box, make sure it is scaled to 100%. There may even be a box for you to check that says "fill entire page". If that' an option, click that box. Then click "print".
If none of this is working or if my directions sound like a foreign language, email me at kindercraze@gmail.com and we can try something else.
Also, I know this is not a solution, but several customers have commented that they would have their kids use bingo dotters to illustrate the addition sentences.
