Teaching word problems can be a challenge, but I found a fun way to reinforce the concept. I created a story problem center using frogs and logs. The students loved it, and the games are a hit.
I used the frog stories in my small math groups and taught the students how to play the game before assigning the game as a center. When students were comfortable playing independently, then I added the game to an independent center. Students used white boards to write the equations that they were demonstrating in the game.
Game includes:
1. Frog Stories (with facts from 2+1 to 10+10)
2. Frog cut-outs (24 total)
3. Work Mat
I have been teaching since August 1998. I've taught in 4 states/US territories such as Texas, Virginia, Arizona, and Guam. I have taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades with my longest experience in 1st grade (which is my favorite!).
