PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These lessons could literally change a child or teen's life forever!!

When I came across the Center for Disease Control's ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) survey I just had to write some lesson plans so I could present it to my students.

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is one of the largest investigations ever conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being. There is a simple 10 question survey to determine childhood trauma. There is proof that protective and resilience factors can heal hurts and break the negative cycle.

Did you know that having 4 or more of the 10 determined adverse childhood experiences puts you at increased risk for depression, alcoholism, substance abuse, low self-esteem, sexually transmitted diseases, obesity, and early death??!!

The good news is that it's been shown that protective factors in a child's life can help them overcome the negative side effects of childhood trauma!! This idea is the heart of my lessons...

Students are empowered to overcome childhood trauma and take control of their own destiny by choosing from a list of 31 protective factors that they have control over in their lives right now.

The lessons in this Common Core aligned resource have been "kid-tested" - My students really responded to the activities and I think it helped motivate them to take ownership of their behaviors.

This important lesson could be revised a bit to use for students as young as 4th grade...help them get these protective factors in their lives BEFORE they turn to risky behaviors!! Help your young students do something NOW, before they turn to negative coping mechanisms!!
