PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This PPT is built around 16 key terms that students are to put into boxes on a paper folded into 8 squares (8 on front, 8 on back). Students write the word, a definition and a put a sketch in each box. The PPT includes a word sort, info on the three empires located around the Niger River (Ghana, Mali, Songhai), connections between Sundiata and the Disney film The Lion King, map activities, a mini quiz, and much more. A free downloadable map worksheet is also available.

Part 1 (17 slides) - African Geography, including: light pollution map, geographic features map, Niger river trade info, list of items traded on the Niger, directions to label all countries of Africa, info on climate zones of Africa (desert, Savanna, Rainforest), sub-Saharan Africa, and the Suez Canal

Part 2 - (17 slides) African Culture, including: McDonald's calories activity (comparing daily calorie intake to African countries), literacy rates, life expectancy rates in certain African countries, Religious distribution map, Salt trade across the Sahara Desert, Oral Tradition, Griots, Kindships, Animism, African proverbs to be discussed, explained or translated
