This project provides topics arranged according to eras. For example: Slavery, Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights. Each era has a list of writers. Students are directed to research the time period and each author listed in that era. Students are then required to determine a distinguishing characteristic of the author and provide an excerpt of the writer's work that illustrates that characteristic. Clear direction is provided for gathering information, documenting and presenting. Also included are examples of creative formats for presentations. The assignment includes a scoring rubric.
