Factoring Monomials
Objectives:
Students will find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of 2 or more monomials, simplify quotients of monomials, factor polynomials that have a GCF, and divide a polynomial by a monomial.
NCTM Standards:
Proofs should be a significant part of high school students' mathematical experience, as well as an accepted method of communication.
California Content Standards:
(10.0) Students add, subtract, multiply, and divide monomials and polynomials.
(11.0) Students apply basic factoring techniques to second-and simple third-degree polynomials. These techniques include finding a common factor for all terms in a polynomial.

Help
In college in the 1960's I discovered that I have a knack for helping people understand technical ideas, and I have used this talent ever since in many contexts, from modeling biological systems using mathematics, to doing research and development in the telecommunications software industry, to tutoring kids and adults in math, to teaching math part-time at several high schools.
