Linear Equation Forms
Objectives:
Students will explain and use methods to convert between point-slope, standard, and slope-intercept form and decide when and how to use each one.
NCTM Standards:
Students write equivalent forms of equations and solve them with fluency—mentally or with paper and pencil in simple cases. Students understand the meaning of equivalent forms of expressions, equations, and relations. Students use symbolic algebra to represent and explain mathematical relationships.
California Content Standards:
(7.0) Students are able to derive linear equations by using the point-slope formula.

Help
In college in the 1960's I discovered that I have a knack for helping people understand technical ideas, and I have used this talent ever since in many contexts, from modeling biological systems using mathematics, to doing research and development in the telecommunications software industry, to tutoring kids and adults in math, to teaching math part-time at several high schools.
