This is a complete set of alphabet readers for students who are beginning reading. Each alphabet letter has its own reader for each student to complete. Each six page reader includes four pictures to color that correspond with that letter and four sentences to read. The text is then included again on the back of the book to provide extra reading practice without picture cues.
Each reader also focuses on one sight word. It is included in each sentence of the reader. Students must locate and highlight each sight word and then count up the total number of sight words in each reader and write that number in the reader.
The readers increase in difficulty as the alphabet progresses. I teach/review the alphabet in order, so I wanted my readers to progress in difficulty to match my students' progress. They move from predictable text to more difficult sentences and also include varied forms of punctuation for further review.
The readers are set up so that they can be copied front-to-back, stapled, and then cut in two so that each set of copies makes two complete readers. I then punch a hole in each so my students can attach them to a binder ring and keep them inside their "Book Bags" that we use for guided reading.
