Get students' pencils moving and their creativity flowing with these short alphabet-themed writing prompts.

Students can write notes to friends, make lists, turn alphabet letters into main characters and describe the details in fictional adventures--All corresponding to the letters of the alphabet.

For each letter, you'll find five different prompts to suit different levels and interests.

You can use them to accompany alphabet-themed beginning of the year or end of the year units. They're also great as part of your morning work routine, or for fast-finishers, or as a part of letter-of-the-week centers or homework all year long.

Each prompt is meant to be a quick writing assignment, but could also be used as a prewriting tool for longer pieces of writing.

Many of the prompts contain interesting words to build into your vocabulary instruction.

For each letter of the alphabet you'll find:
*Two styles of friendly notes
*A list-making prompt
*An alphabet character story prompt
*An animal adventure prompt

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 10 years of teaching experience in the elementary grades, and 8 years as a parent. I'm passionate about creating products that combine what I know about education from both perspectives. Before staying home with my three young boys, I taught grades 3-6. I also subbed in grades K-12. I currently blog at www.smalltypes.com, where I exercise my "teacher brain" by sharing tips for parents to help them create a print-rich home. I keep up with best practices through continuing education; I volunteer in my sons' classrooms; and like most parents, I do plenty of after-school teaching to support my own kids' learning at home.
