Learn about Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, our North American neighbors!
This is a collection of 3 complete units for teaching about America's neighbors. This listing contains the three complete units: "Canada: Our Neighbor to the North," "Mexico: Our Neighbor to the South," and "The Caribbean: Our Island Neighbors." You can see a preview of each unit in my other listings.
This collection contains 12 separate files. There are four separate files for each unit. Each unit has a 10-page packet that can be used as a "textbook chapter" when teaching about that country. In the packet, your students will learn about the land, water, climate, products, natural resources, landmarks, government, money, and culture. Also included is an Anticipation Guide is to be used as they read the packet to guide their reading, a 30 question quiz, and a fun "scrapbook" activity with a grading rubric.
While these materials were written to correspond to Florida's Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for 3rd grade Social Studies when I couldn't find anything else appropriate for my students, these units are also perfect for 4th, 5th, or 6th graders studying the countries of North America.
You might also be interested in my other units for the Southeast, Northeast, Southwest, Midwest, and West regions of the United States.
I bought this and then convinced my principal to buy licenses for the other third grade classes. It provides better common core reading than our textbook. Thank you for all your great products!
Thank you so much! This is fantastic...love, love, love!

I LOVE this unit plan. It makes the book so much easier to follow, and the kids really seem to like it. We fill out a little bit of our 'Scrap Book' after every chapter, and when it is complete we will make a little book for their portfolios. I would definitely recommend this as a supplement to the book.
Look forward to using this as a textbook replacement for my third grade unit! I am very grateful for the thorough resource although would prefer more creative learning ideas.
