This independent reading project requires students to read a fiction book and complete an in-depth character analysis about the main character. Students complete five different tasks during this unit. A grading rubric for both reading and writing are included.
Task 1: Character Traits
Students write about the main character’s physical appearance.
Task 2: About the Character
Students complete a graphic organizer with information about what the character says and does, and what other characters say about the main character.
Task 3: Inferring About Characters
Students complete a chart with quotes and examples from the text, and inferences made about the characters based on the quotes and examples.
Task 4: Understanding Characters
Students answer in-depth questions about the main character.
Task 5: Character Bio Poem
Students write a bio poem about the main character.
