A comprehensive syllabus/course plan for AP English Literature & Composition composed in 2007 in accordance with the the new College Board AP Audit requirements.

This syllabus is twelve detailed pages long, including Course Description, Texts to be used, Grading Policy, Quarter-by-Quarter Course Outline including classwork and homework for each day of the year, and explanation of Major Writing Assignments.
Texts include: Perrine�s Literature: Structure, Sound, and Sense (9th Edition), Elements of Literature: Sixth Course. Holt Rinehart & Winston (2000), and MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers: 6th Edition. MLA (2003).
Major readings include Death of a Salesman, The Awakening, The Importance of Being Earnest, Doctor Faustus, Lord of the Flies, Jane Eyre, Brave New World, and Hamlet. If these texts are not available to you, you could easily substitute an appropriate title in place of one or more.
This course plan is written for block scheduling (88 minute blocks) and is primarily arranged chronologically according to literary history.

12 years in public school teaching, primarily 10th grade English, 10th grade Honors English, 12th grade AP English, IB English, and Creative Writing courses. I have also taught 9th grade, 9th grade Honors, and 11th grade English courses. In addition to the standard and honors courses, I have taught as an inclusion team teacher and I have taught summer school remediation courses. I have taught in both traditional year-long 7-period (50 minute) schedules as well as 4x4 (88 minute) block scheduling and year-long (88 minute) A/B block scheduling. I am trained by the International Baccalaureate Organization and the College Board. My CW students have taken first place in the VHSL state writing competition on two separate occasions. Our literary magazine has won every major state and national award.
