This Author Study/Book Report encompasses all of the standards - reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is very engaging for middle school students and is broken down so it can be easily managed by the teacher.
The unit is designed for middle school students. Students make a Power Point as the final project, however, it can modified to some other form such as a scrapbook, file folder or poster for the final project. If you want it adapted to one of the other versions it is available for purchase already modified on TpT under the title "Author Study Scrapbook Middle School".
We use the Author Study for about a six week period since students are asked to read two books. However, it can easily be adapted to a shorter period of time by not using all the components of the study.

Student commitment/parent approval form
Guided author research paper
Book report forms
Connection forms
Directions for the final project
Book Rating Listening Guide
Reflection Paper
When you have purchased this unit I can e-mail you an example of the project done as a PowerPoint (I have not figured out how to add two things to a listing, when I do figure it out I will adjust the listing).

I love teaching this unit! It is very well planned and could be used as is or tailored to fit any teacher's need. There is enough information in the unit that it may be used in an entire 9 week marking period. My favorite part about this unit is that it takes the typical book report to a new level where students' research allow them to delve deep into authors lives so that students can see the connections between what an author writes and how an author lives. The literary analysis piece was both developmentally appropriate and relevant to the unit's purpose. Great assignment!!
