Here's a hands-on way to practice author's purpose! It also makes a creative bulletin board or school hallway display!
I have used this version with my 2nd and 3rd grade students. (I take it a step further and use the PIE'ED version with my 4th and 5th grade students, adding "explain" and "describe".) ALL grade levels have thoroughly enjoyed this activity!
Students color their pie and crust, cut it out, and glue it together. They write definitions for persuade, entertain, and inform. Then they read the passage on three of the pie slices, and label the author's purpose for writing each passage. (Student friendly directions with visual supports are included!)
Do your students enjoy craftivities as much as my 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders do? Would you like to integrate more hands-on creative activities (that still reinforce the standards) like this into your curriculum? I have several more learning craftivities available in my store. (Just click on the links below to take a peek!) Also, I have plans to create a few more, so feel free to follow me or check my store occasionally to see my newest products!
