The following Powerpoint slides include an in-depth look at 11 different styles author's use in fiction, short stories, poems, etc. Styles include similes, metaphors, personification, idioms, hyperbole, alliteration, and many more. All slides include simple definitions students can relate to, tips to help students identify the style in text, and appropriate clip art to reflect the content of the text. I use these slides to introduce the concepts. I have also used them for mini-lessons and review.
