This set of 3 posters and student handout was created for minilessons to push students' to higher level thinking in reading. After talking about the author's message and not getting results, I came up with THREE ways to look at the author's message with each way increasing in higher level thinking. The preview shows one of the three posters. On the student handout, all three posters are on one sheet. I also included a student handout version with a few fill in the blanks to make students more active when you are introducing this concept. The concepts on these posters can provide at least two weeks of mini lessons. The questions/sentence starters can be used to help students write to express the author's message. I used this with Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg and Wump World by Bill Peet. You could read/discuss the books for 3 days, moving through each of the ways of thinking about the author's meaning each day.

Great reference for readers. This does not convert to older Microsoft Word programs so it is very hard to adjust everything. Great ideas!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my 8th year of teaching. Most of my teaching experience has been in 5th grade, but I taught 4th grade for two years and looped with those classes. I have a masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading and received National Boards Certification in Middle Childhood. Being an elementary teacher, I teach all subject areas and think about ways to engage children in content through collaboration and discussion.
