This is an autobiographical poetry activity with slots for students to fill in information about themselves. I use this as a beginning of the year "getting to know you" activity. You can have the students rewrite the poem onto nice paper and do a photo collage if you like. It is kind of formulaic but great for kids who have trouble getting started with poetry writing. Actually, one cool thing to do with this is have every student bring in a baby picture. Then have students guess which picture goes with which poem. Or, you could block the names and do it that way. It is hilarious if the teachers bring in their own baby pictures, too.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching since 2000. I taught sheltered 6th grade in a low-income district near Chicago for 4 years, and 3rd and 4th grade for two years. I also taught 2nd and 3rd grade summer school. I earned National Board Certification in 2008. I currently work as an ESL/ELL specialist teacher for K-5. I do both small group (pull-out) teaching as well as co-teaching in regular classrooms.
