Do your students have trouble distinguishing between the letters B and D while reading? If so, these activities can provide your students practice in identifying the letters B and D and determining which letter is used in words. You will find 6 activities in this packet:
1. Highlight a letter - Students use a highlighter to identify either B or D.
2. B & D sort – Students cut and paste the letters B & D onto the sorting mat. For differentation purposes, students can sort by words beginning with B & D.
3. Circle the Letter – Students look at the letter at the beginning of the row. Then students circle all of those letters in the rest of the row.
4. Follow the B or D – Students color the first letter listed at start. Continue coloring that letter to follow the path.
5. Cloze sentences – Students read the sentence and fill in the word that makes sense.
6. Pocket Chart Activity – Students place the word cards in a pocket chart then add the b or d to complete the word. A recording sheet is provided for after the game.

I haven't had an opportunity to use this packet yet (the student I downloaded it for was out sick for several days), but I bought it to save myself time in creating the same materials myself. I don't mean the "B" in creativity as an insult - it's just hard to be super creative with this kind of skill. I am looking forward to trying it out tomorrow, especially the die activity.

Hi, I purchased your B and D packet and found it very helpful. However, my student was able to distinguish between B and D in these activities, but in his daily reading he still mixes them up almost 100% of the time, any ideas?

Hi! B and D can be so hard sometimes. I have had success before in the past with using colored transparencies over the text. There are different colors and some kids respond to one color better over another. It's possible that will help. It's such a tough one. I've always felt like my kids just don't "see" it the right way. How would he do reading lists of words with b and d in them? Maybe give a list with b and d words. Have him highlight b's one color and d's another. Then try to read the words focusing on the target sound. Then move onto sentences with lots of b and d words. Maybe I'll go add that to my packet this weekend! I hope this helps!
