I am so excited to post my B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading) Resources and Graphic Organizers packet. It is a collection of activities I've developed and used in my own classroom to promote higher order thinking skills through literature based activities. The activities are varied and can be adapted for small group and whole group lessons. You can use these materials with any book at any reading level. Some of the activities focus on literary elements such as plot, setting, and theme. Others are open-ended writing activities to promote literary responses through writing. The B.E.A.R. theme is an acronym you can use in your classroom similar to D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) or S.S.R. (Sustained Silent Reading). To promote interest in the reading process students need to be engaged through independent reading times and guided reading. Not only can you use B.E.A.R. for silent reading, it is a theme that carries over into reading group instruction as well. Students can set up a B.E.A.R. Notebook or use each item individually! Below is a list of what all is included in this download!

Are your BEAR Organizers correlated (on them) to the CORE standards? If so, I'm in!

Hi Sally! Thank you for your question. If you are asking whether or not I actually posted the standards on the sheets, then no. I did, however, refer constantly to the standards when making these because higher level thinking activities are embedded so much within the standards. Graphic organizers and H.O.T.S. (Higher Order Thinking Skills) are stressed through verb usage and expectations embedded within the standards. Does this help? Thank you!-Yvonne
