Use these 24 Boggle cards at a literacy center to help students improve letter pattern recognition skills, spelling, and vocabulary. This version of the game is meant to be played individually, ideally without a time limit. Another option would be to play with a time limit and have students exchange cards at the end of each round. Just make sure they know they are not competing against each other since each card is different. Students can play on notebook paper or white boards and record their scores on the included score sheet.

This product has been updated (Dec. 2012) to include a cover card, challenge card and four blank templates so you can create your own!

These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Another option is to print on cardstock. The labels on this page can be used for your a center or on the container/baggie you use to hold the cards.

Well there wasn't until you suggested it. I just revised the product to include four template cards as well as a challenge card. Thanks for the great idea!

I'm not familiar with Boggle. I couldn't access any directions in the download preview. Do you mind telling me how this game is played? Thank you.

It is a little tricky without graphics, but basically, you play by making as many words as you can from the letters on the grid. In each word, the letters must be touching in order, so you can have a word that is zig-zag, square, etc. as well as straight across. You can't use the same letter in one word - so you could not spell DAD by starting with the D, going to the adjacent A and then going back to the same D (though a different D would be fine).

So looking at card #1 from the free preview, you could spell WERE straight across the top. You could also spell WAVE, WAVER, WEAVE, and WEAVER. However, you could not make RAVER because you would have to use the R twice and you cannot make WHAM because the M is not close enough to the A you would need.

Kids write down as many words as they can (timed or not, your choice) and use the the scoring chart to find their totals.

Hope that helps!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Most of my teaching experience is with gifted and talented students in grades 2-4, though I have worked with children of all ages in general education classrooms as well. A few years ago I stopped teaching in order to write nonfiction children's books full time. Gradually over the last couple of years, my career has switched from writing to creating teaching materials here on Teacher Pay Teacher. I love creating teaching products (most recently task cards) and feel just as passionate about my work now as I did when I was teaching. I also love knowing that my products help thousands of teachers and reach tens of thousands of students.
