A fun, unique way to get to know students at the start of the school year. Works especially well in math and/or science classes, although it can be used anywhere.
Students are asked to create a self-portrait following specific instructions to use "glyphs" or symbols for different features. For example - "If you love school, give yourself a round head. If you like school, give yourself a square head. If you hate school, give yourself a triangle head."
After the students have drawn their self-portrait teacher can have each student display and explain their portrait, or the teacher can ask students to try to find another student with a similar (or different) portrait.
A great "First Day of School" activity!

This is a great idea. I love when you can combine art with other subjects! Very Cool!

Good idea, well-suited to lower primary classes. Especially liked the idea of kids sharing their self-portrait, looking for similarities. I thought this would be a good back to school activity.
Great activity for the first week! Everyone loved it.

We definitely enjoyed this! I added a few more questions/options to make it a bit more informative for me with my 7th & 8th graders. But definitely a great "warm up" at the beginning of the year!

My students enjoyed this on the first day of school, and I got an idea what kind of kids I was dealing with!
