This original motivational poem has one meaning when you read it forwards and another when you read it in reverse! It's great for any junior-high or high-school class.
Here's an excerpt:
Apathy has no cure
Because I refuse to believe that
My future will be amazing

I use this on the first day of school to actively teach students what apathy is so we can work to avoid it in the classroom. But it would also be a great activity later in the year to help kids get over the "Spring Slump" that they always seem to struggle with. Students will be surprised and interested when the poem starts going backwards and suddenly has a completely different message.
In the package I've included the poem in several different formats, including a WMV video file version complete with voice-over and background sound (this is the one I use to present the idea to my students) I've also thrown in a poster that says, "This classroom is a No Apathy Zone!" that could be used to keep this concept in students' minds throughout the year.

Oh my goodness, this was so powerful for my students. We shared it during Advisory and followed up with anti-apathy bumper stickers. Some students even asked if they could write a poem in the same format. Powerful stuff here! A bonus was educating my colleagues about TpT :-)

I wonder if there is a PPT compatibility issue. Note that when you open the slide the text should be off screen as it will scroll upward and then back downward when you play the presentation. Hope it goes well during week one!

This is a great resource; however, the last line of the powerpoint is cut off. Do you know if any formula or a "how-to" worksheet on creating this type of poem exists? After watching this, several of my students will want to create their own poem of this type. I am looking forward to using this in my classroom.

Does it cut the last line off in the video version, too? I wonder if there's a screen size issue? Maybe I'll try realigning it a bit so the words rise up a bit higher by the end. Then I'll send out a note to let you download the update.
As for a "How-to," I don't know of any, but that's a great idea. Obviously, this form of poem isn't my own creation--there are several others out there that use the same "read-it-in-reverse" trick. But that would be a cool form-poem for students to write in a poetry unit. I'll work on creating something like that.

I just downloaded it to test it, and it worked alright, so I'm guessing we have a compatibility problem. The video file is in Windows Media format, unfortunately for Mac users (someday I'll learn how to use Macs so I can post files on both platforms.) But if you have PowerPoint, you can play the video there as well.
The PowerPoint presentation only has one slide, but it contains the entire video. Just show the presentation and click once; the video will play out with the sound and voice over.
Let me know if that works.

I'm glad you liked the video and the other resources. As for the PowerPoint, it actually is only one slide. But it's a highly-programmed slide. Within that one slide, a click triggers the title appearance, beginning of a sound clip and voice-over, and a moving text that has the full poem scroll all the way through and then in reverse--so the one slide lasts just under three minutes. The PowerPoint was basically intended to be a different format version of the video. I'm really sorry if I miscommunicated that.
The good news is that I'm constantly improving and updating my products. When I add an update or a new resource to an existing product, I'll make sure you get an email that lets you download the new resources without having to pay for the product again.
So I'll consider this a request for an additional PowerPoint presentation to go along with this poem and the "overcoming apathy" theme, and I'll get working on that (maybe I'll make it a Prezi--those are fun!)

I can't take credit for the format (the idea of writing it in a way that it can be read forwards or backwards--there are several other similar examples out there.) I treated it like a form poem and came up with my own. Another downloader suggested a unit that would teach students to write their own forward/backward poem. That's in the works.
