Start the year in a positive way! Inspired by David Letterman's "Top 10" lists, this back-to-school activity allows students to come up with 10 reasons why being back in school is great. It promotes positive-thinking and is a fun activity for the students.
The five-page download includes a student handout, suggestions for using the activity for other units or events, optional variations for the top 10 reasons, and examples from my own students.

What a great writing idea for the upper grade levels to implement on the first day of school. They would have a lot of fun with this. I especially love the sarcastic responses. Those are usually the hardest kids to engage in writing. Thanks for the idea.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching at my current public high school for ten years, and have a total of 14 years experience. Most of my experience is teaching high school English and journalism classes; however, for several years I taught an art history class. I teach all levels--from honors students to special education students; therefore, I'm constantly modifying my assignments to fit my students' needs.
