Bad Day at Riverbend, by Chris Van Allsburg, is a wonderful picture book, but the pictures give away the ending. This is the text of the story, presented without pictures, with writing and drawing prompts scattered throughout. The goal of reading this story without picture is for the students to practice visualization skills. Once they have read the story and completed the activities, then show Van Allsburg's illustrations.
