I've used this assignment with Catcher in the Rye and Huck Finn, but it can used when teaching any banned or challenged book. Students are asked to assert their intellectual freedom and read a banned or challanged book independently. To insure that they do the reading, a reading response is due each week. At the end of the project, students will create a presentation to a fake board of education, explaining why they feel their banned or challenged book should be kept in or taken out of the school curriculum or library. Includes a list of 200 banned and challenged books.

Help
I have worked with a number of grades, between the regular school year and summer school, including 6th - 12th grade. I originally started with an elementary background, and so I have some elementary materials as well.
