#1 Best Selling Product at Raki's Rad Resources from March 28th, 2011 - January 22, 2012!

Math is best learned in real life situations. This project puts students into the real life situation of building a new school. While working on problem solving and creative thinking, students also work on measurement: including area and perimeter. A simple grading rubric has been built in to give students guidance and feedback. Working as individuals, or as groups, this project is sure to get students' minds working.

This sounded like a terrific year-end project, but when I went to work on it myself, I soon realized that the dimensions just do not work. How much paper do the students need? Perhaps I am reading it incorrectly, but it seems to me they would need to make murals.

We generally used multiple pieces of graph paper and taped them together. Each student (or group - my students often worked on this as a group) used a different amount/set up of graph paper, depending on their design. Some were rather large, others were quite compact, depending on the student and their creativity. Hope this helps.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Grades Taught:

I currently teach first grade at an American School in Casablanca, Morocco. Previously, I taught all grade levels in the computer lab at a Title I school in Georgia. I have also taught 3rd grade for 4 years. I student-taught in 3rd grade and Kindergartden. I have taught both high income and low-income school students, and find that no matter where I teach, most kids need to look at every problem from 12 different angles. Although it is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.
