Growing plants is a great way to get young children excited about nature. This set of experiments is a wonderful fall lesson that ties in well to your pumpkin and Native American themes. The "Three Sisters" is what some Native American tribes called three key crops: squash, corn and beans. After exploring pumpkins, move onto corn and beans and grow them with your class. Your students will get to take home their own bean seedling. My pre-k class loves these projects each year. I have included an overview, directions, a materials list, suggestions for your fall science center, and even a printable handout for parents that details the project. I have worked in a preschool setting since 2004. At first, I was our preschool's librarian and resource teacher. I created many library lessons for my own use as well as many items specifically for our teachers. Since 2009, I have been teaching pre-k. My classes learn through hands-on, interactive activities that bring fun into the classroom.
