Hi PoetGirl! I use music in my classes all the time. During study halls I play all kinds of different background music. I believe it's important for kids, today, to hear not only rock, but music from other countries and classical music as well. When we study poetry, I explain that many times lyrics are poems If I forget to have background music playing in study halls, my students remind me! It's wonderful. Hi again Miss Welsh! I love the Beatles too!! So does my niece who's ten. Their lyrics are much different than some of today's songs if you know what I mean. One of my high school English teachers introduced music in his classes and from that day on, I was hooked. I also have soft music playing in study halls. I have a lot of music from around the world and always explain what it is. Have fun!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been an elementary and middle school teacher for over 25 years in Connecticut. I also served on the Weekly Reader National Teacher Advisory Board as the Connecticut State Rep and appeared on "Good Morning, America" in 1993, to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Weekly Reader. I worked closely with the other state representatives and Weekly Reader's editorial, graphic arts and marketing departments. I was a NASA/Lockheed Martin Mission Systems "Student Signatures in Space" teacher for ten years. My students, Board of Ed, staff and others signed NASA posters that accompanied astronauts during space missions aboard the space shuttles. One of the posters was signed by all students in our school, teachers, parents and the Board of Ed. It returned from space, and was hung in the school's Media Center.
