I'm not a teacher, but I do a lot of work with my daughter and her cousin at home. I would like to know if this is something I can implement at home for the two kids. They are in 1st grade. My daughter has already made great strides in reading. She went from a DRA2 leverl 6 to a level 21 since September, but I want her to continue to improve. Is this something I could use as well?

Hi Jessica,
My students use a reader's notebook to write about their thinking during our independent reading time. They keep all of their work in their notebook. I keep all the anecdotal records/reading conference forms in my reading binder. THere is not a specific spot in the file for student responses to the text/group discussion. I have all of my student data in my binder and I place their sheet (such as their reading log) with the other students who are in that group with them. When I switch the groups arround according to the strategy or the skill we are learning about, I then just move the reading log (or other data) to a different spot/group in my binder. I hope that helps to clarify some things!

Hey Lesson Plan SOS Teachers, I LOVE your guided reading guru pack! I bought it last school year and it has TREMENDOUSLY helped be become a better g.r. teacher. I was wondering if you could email me the sticky note color coded page so that I could change the colors. I use highlighters on plain sticky notes and need green to be orange. (or just send it to me with that color change) I would REALLY appreciate it! Again, I cannot thank you enough for this packet!

I purchased the `Become a Guided Reading Guru!´pack and love it. However when I saw your Reading Binder on Pinterest (where I originally got linked to your blog) there were matching `literature group`, 'reading conference`, `running records`, `reading workshop` and 'reading response letters' section sheets that I saw. Are there not included in the guided reading guru package? I was looking forward to having matching title pages for the different sections of the binger. I have the 'reading binder', along with the 'guided reding groups' pages but no cover sheets for the others, can you help me?

We have fully implemented Guided Reading in our school for the last 3 years. I keep going back and forth between your two downloads. I'm not sure which one is the best for making the binder that would work for me. We don't do literature groups or the reader response letters. I love the idea of having the F and P chart handy, reading group pages, the teacher reference pages that you use when working with a group and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, the idea of the section dividers/pages that are so cute and colorful. Would you care to share which one you think might work? Thanks so much!

If you are only interested in the guided reading component, I would stick with just the guided reading guru file. If you want to learn more about literature groups, then I would purchase the Ultimate Teacher Reading Binder.

Thanks for the question! Our district adopted the Macmillan mcgraw- hill reading series. We have guided reading groups for 60 minutes a day as part of our overall instructional reading time. During the rest of the reading block we also do shared reading, which is part of our basal. I think you will find that you are able to implement your basal series your district requires with guided reading groups. I hope that helps to answer your questions!
